Plants to have at your office to clean the air, toxins and dust

Updated: Sep 19, 2023

Nasa study reveals best air-cleaning plants for your office. Due to sealed space stations ,with no fresh air, astronauts were at risk of inhaling dangerous pollutants due to lack of air-flow and restricted ventilation. So NASA contacted a study to find the best Air-Cleaning plants. Everyone knows that plants photosynthesize, inhaling carbon dioxide to produce oxygen, but NASA thought that plans might actually absorb dangerous pollutants from the atmosphere. Some plants have the ability to clean the air of toxins and dust, which greatly improves the quality of our health. Here are the plants NASA recommends for indoor use for sanitizing the environment and keeping toxins out of a room.

Aloe

NASA says it’s one of the best purifying plants you can have. This plant is ideal for increasing the oxygen in the office, because it absorbs carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Aloe Vera is areal air purifier. It is also very easy to maintain.

Areca Palm

Removes many of the toxins and produces large amount of oxygen. It should be watered every two to three days.

English Ivy (Hedera Helix)

Even though it is a low grower, it is a popular plant for hanging baskets and trailing on shelves. Within six hours ivy can clean 60% of air toxins. It likes bright light but not direct light in the summer. It is toxic to humans.

Spider plant (Chlorophytum Comosum)

Easy and beautiful plant, multiplies quickly. It is amazing because it is able to photosynthesize the minimum possible light. It is very effective at absorbing air toxins such as carbon monoxide and purifying the air from xylene. A single pot has the ability to purify the air in a 200sq.m. space. You should water it once a week.

Money Plants

Just by the name of it, it is a plant that you want to have at your office. Money plant has a high purification rate and can remove most pollutants. You should keep this plant though tuck away because it’s leaves are toxic to humans and animals. It thrives in indirect lights and needs water every 1-2 weeks.

Snake plant

It is also known as Mother-in-Law’s tongue. It is one of the best air-purifying plants. It is very resistant and carries out photosynthesis with minimal light. Needs little watering.

Peace Lily

Cleans air toxins and produces oxygen. NASA states in its research that in an area of

80sq.m. you will need 3-4 of these "magical" plants. Peace Lily are shade-loving plants that do best with regular watering and misting in the summer months.

So get one of these to maintain a fresh environment around you.
